What the latest national data say
The wage data include tips. The annual equivalent listed is $34,340, but part-time work and variable schedules are common.
The median is the midpoint: half of bartenders earned more and half earned less. It is not the same as an average tip amount and it cannot predict an individual bar, city or schedule.
The national range is wide
BLS reports that the lowest 10% earned under $9.67 per hour while the highest 10% earned above $35.47. That spread reflects major differences in venues, location, schedules, experience and tip volume.
